Terrific Tiny Tables

Traditional Living Room design by Miami Photographer Brantley Photography
We all want the rooms in our home to look great but their functionality is just as important. This is where tiny tables come in. Lamp tables, coffee tables and bedside tables are essential for those cups of tea, books, glasses, tissues and so on. The problem is that they often consume more space than we want them to. Small lamp tables provide the perfect solution to this. [Read more...]

What a Beautiful Reims Teak Bedroom Furniture Piece

I love this beautiful furniture piece. Firstly, I think its beauty is undeniable. The design is hand carved and that little bit different compared to other furniture I have seen (which is a great deal!) I also think it would be very practical as it could have a variety of uses whether that is as a showstopping sideboard in your living room or a decorative unique chest of drawers with additional cupboard space. I would be reluctant to place anything on top as I wouldn’t want to conceal the ornate design. Perhaps a couple of jewellery boxes on either end would be appropriate. You can also get your hands on additional pieces from the Reims collection such as a dresser and stool, a four drawer chest and a bedside table. Although I’m in love with this natural teak sideboard/dresser, you also have the opportunity to order one in an ivory finish. One of the best things is that it’s available at a fraction of the price you would have imagined. What are you waiting for?  Have a look at the collection now, you don’t want to miss out on this opportunity: Reims Teak Colour 6 Drawer 2 Door Storage

Quintessentially British – Aston Martin Furniture

We love these unique furniture pieces brought to you by Aston Martin Heritage Specialists, Nicholas Mee & Co. Their collection of ‘upcycled’ luxury car parts have transformed (pun, not intended) into beautiful, iconic chairs, coffee tables, hat stands and even ipod docking stations! What’s more is that they’re ready to take commissions from customers who would like a bespoke piece of furniture or any other crafted item made out of pre-used Aston Martin components. Another luxury gift sorted for that difficult man in your life! I did say luxury though (the ipod docking station made out of a brake caliper will set you back $1,595). My recognition of mechanical car parts is slowly improving – crankshaft coffee table anyone? Read the full feature at Luxatic

Bring Black Into Your Kitchen

Thomas Thaddeus Truett Architect

decoist, architecture and interior design blog, have collated various images of kitchens boasting black furniture and features. They show you how to bring ‘elegance and drama’ into your kitchen whether you want an entirely black kitchen or just want to add hints of black to the hub of your home. This article states how you don’t have to be bold by selecting black kitchen units, it could be as simple as using black wall decals, tiles or accessories. I love the black gloss on the island unit above which contrasts perfectly with the white marble surface. Note how the reverse is true of the kitchen units; black granite on white cupboards. The lucky owners of this kitchen above have cleverly constructed a brick archway that frames the entrance to the kitchen perfectly. Read the full feature and view many more black kitchens here

Beautiful Dark Wood, Spanish Meets British Colonial Furniture

I adore this beautiful solid dark wood Toscana furniture. It oozes grandeur and classic style. There is nothing better than colonial style, and here Spanish influence has been injected into this design with great effect. I want to throw out my furniture and move this wonderful collection in. I just need some enormous curtained windows, some terracotta exposed plaster walls and a lizard or two crawling up the wall. Mediterranean style meets British Grandeur; perfect. Oh, and this bed can be your in a 6′ wide option. It doesn’t get much better than that apart from the extremely reasonable price…….Toscana Bed

Shabby Chic, Traditional and Neoclassical Collide

This lounging area, which leads onto a terrace is a very desirable space. Designed by Margaret Kirkland, her signature traditional style and flower print fabrics  are  apparent, accompanied by a few shabby chic pieces and a couple of neoclassical elements. I am not usually a fan of this style of flower print, but it works really well in this space, picking out the green in the shutters and frames. The shabby chic chairs and coral side table offset the flowery upholstery so the room doesn’t look chintzy.  The flagstones are one of the main features in this room and work well leading out onto an outdoor area. The painting displayed on an easel and the neoclassical bust and screen provide the perfect focal points. The muted reds of the lanterns are essential to oppose the pastel greens in the room and complete the overall look.

Create The Look For Less

In the image below, you can find the perfect Highgrove Chair (top left) and side tables  (Moulleron Painted Flower Stand on the left and Moulleron Round Painted Lamp Table on the right) to recreate this look. You could distress and upholster the chair yourself and paint the tables a coral red/pink as in the picture above. You can find the furniture below at Furniture Collection.

See my previous feature on The Versatility and Vibrancy of Shutters for an insight into the room adjacent to the one we have discussed here.

The Celebration Chair

The Celebration Chair, designed by one of my favourite designers – the ingenious Benjamin Rollins Caldwell (brc), seems to me like the perfect tribute to the incredibly successful athletes, organisers and volunteers of the 2012 London Olympics. The chair is composed of masses of plastic gold and silver trophy topper figures fixed together at various points using screws. Benjamin states that the chair is ‘meant to signify the importance of the unity and bond between people’. This chair deserves prime position in a modern minimalist apartment. Any takers?

If you love the design concept but don’t want to go as far as purchasing the chair, there’s always  Celebration Bowl:

I love this Contemporary Chair Collection from Furniture Collection. Whether you’re looking for some eclectic bar stools, kitchen chairs, dining chairs or a living room piece with a difference, this range has got you covered.  The Panton Chair would look fantastic paired with a transparent ‘ghost’ dining table or a white modern table. Available in white, silver and black as well as red, you really are spoilt for choice. What about this incredible cheetah print bar stool? These would look absolutely gorgeous at your breakfast bar. I love the spring loaded ‘coat rack’ style base.  Have a look at the collection and see if you can find your ideal chair.
